Counseling & Teaching/Speaking
“Mankind walks around as if he is an orphan. God the Father has sent His Son to us to let us know that we are not orphans at all, but that we have a Heavenly Father.”
Chris shares about his counseling…
I co-pastored a church in Miami Florida for over 12 years. At the end of that time, I was burned-out and frustrated, and I think part of that frustration was due to a lack of productivity in my pastoral counseling. So I spent the next couple of years pressing into the Lord and asking Him to show me a Biblical model for counseling that would truly work. During those two years, the Lord began to reveal a new understanding for counseling in me starting with Genesis, chapters 1–3.
Man was made in the likeness of God and was meant to be His reflection. Man was created out of love, by love, and for love. However, when the fall took place it wrought terrible effects in his mind, soul, spirit, and body, and these were passed down to all of humanity.
Therefore man is now a mixture of dignity and depravity–he has the image of God but is also broken, shattered, and fractured.
When Adam said, “I was afraid because I was naked,” what he really was saying was, “I was ashamed,” because he knew that he was no longer what he was made to be. From the passage, it is clear that after just one sin, Adam felt not only shame, but also fear, and contempt toward God, himself, and his wife; so he hid himself.
These traits have been passed down to all of us so that we all now live with deep shame and fear which drives us into self-protected ways of relating to God, ourselves, and everyone else in our lives.
When I work with someone in counseling, we address these issues and how they play out uniquely in that person’s life because each person brings their own story, their own traumas, and their own sins. I begin to help people identify their intrinsic worth and value as a human being made in the image of God, help them understand that God in His great mercy has never stopped loving them, and begin to heal the issues of sin and victimization that exist in their lives. I then provide them with tools so that they can live in a more healthy and wholesome way so that their relationships with God, themselves, and others can be more Christlike.
Chris shares about his teaching…
I’ve been in the Lord for 44 years most of which has been spent in full-time ministry. I have co-pastored a church for 12 years, helped start churches, counseled, and been able to travel and speak around the world.
During all of that time, the primary burden which I have carried and continue to carry is the message of The Father Himself and The Fatherhood of God. I believe this is the message which Jesus primarily came here to explain to us–how wonderful and marvelous His Father really is.
Mankind walks around as if he is an orphan. God the Father has sent His Son to us to let us know that we are not orphans at all, but that we have a heavenly Father.
In fact the Spirit that He has put inside of us, by which we cry out, “Abba,” is the very Spirit of of the Son Himself living inside of us.
So I try to incorporate in all of my speaking (as well as my writing and my counseling) the message of the Father and the kind intention and good pleasure of His heart’s desire that is all centered in and focused on the person of the Lord Jesus Himself and His glorious works of redemption.
I believe that this message will not only grow in the earth today, but that it will be captured by this up and coming generation–that they will be so captivated with the Father and so captured by Him that they will carry to the ends of the earth the torch, the banner of the Father Himself–that they are going to bring to planet earth a revelation of God as a sweet and kind-hearted Father in preparation for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
